Writing 101: Serially Found; Innocence Lost, Independence Found

Assignment:  Earlier in the course, you wrote about losing something. Today, write about finding something. For your twist, view day four’s post and today’s post as installments in a series.

Each crack in that wall was a painful brick to the face of my innocence.  But what I had come to realize was that where innocence is lost, independence is found.

As I have mentioned in a previous post, once upon a time I had believed my father to be the epitome of a perfect father…Until time and experience opened my eyes to all of his flaws. Once that crack had been created, I started to question instead of following blindly. Questioning everything from specific points of view about others (racial, homophobic, bigoted views), lifestyle choices, even religion.

With each new question a burgeoning new Me started to emerge.  The less I looked to them for guidance, the more I looked to myself for independence.  I realized that the only person in charge of my destiny was me- and that was an incredibly freeing epiphany.
