Weekend Fun

Fast and Furious 7 Weekend

How do you focus an entire weekend around a movie? Why would you want to?

DUH! Why would you NOT?!?!

I have to say this whole franchise surprised me.  I did not think that I was going to like this series at all.  I absolutely adored American Graffiti and muts have watched it a hundred times.  (I mean seriously! There were some heavy hitters in this 1973 classic!)

With so many amazing car-centric movies done in past, I did not think that “new Hollywood” would be able to deliver with the Fast and Furious series.

With the exception of Tokyo Drift, I loved everyone of them.  Fast cars, strong female characters, gorgeous, gear head men that are also loyal,  with insane action sequences…What isn’t to love?

This last weekend was a happy coincidence for u both the new Fast and Furious 7 came out AND the Cruise on Central was happening. WOOT!  All day Saturday was spent looking at all of the different types of hot cars. You’ve got your classics, American muscle cars, VW’s, tuner cars, then there are the rat-rods, the different types of custom rides, the military machinery, the trucks- in all of their varying splendor from the super low to the insanely high. There were even quite a few motorcycles and low riders- something for everyone to see.

What makes the Cruise on Central so fun and different than any other car show, you ask?

  1. The enormity of the event.  There were thousands of people spectating and hundreds participating.
  2. This is the only time (twice a year) that the police department will let people “flex” going down Central (meaning they can do burn outs and “get on it” as long as they aren’t idiots about it.
  3. It lasts all day, and isn’t a “traditional” car show by any stretch of the imagination.

Saturday morning consisted of lawn chair shopping and stuffing the rolling ice cooler for the day.  The rest of the day was just milling around Central watching people and cars.  What a fun way to spend a day.  Not that I would want to do this every weekend, but twice a year is doable and entertaining.

Then Sunday we watched the newest installment of the Fast & Furious.  Surprisingly it really held up.  I won’t go into any spoiler alerts, but there was a part at the end that may have made me tear up a little (and it wasn’t because Dwayne Johnson put his shirt back on. Although that was a shame).
