Memorial Day

Memorial Day

Did you know that at one time the Northern and the Southern states refused to use the same day to memorialize their veterans?  Or that Memorial Day, previously known as Remembrance Day or Decoration Day, was only reserved for Civil War soldiers until after World War I ?

Although I am not a veteran, I have had many people that I love and many ancestors as well that served.  So, please remember that Memorial Day isn’t just a 3 day weekend filled with barbecues and swim parties.  It’s a national day of remembrance.

We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.
