Getting healthy- One day at a time

I am currently trying to lose that last ten pounds.  The ten pounds that seems to be tacked to my midsection and that has been the bane of my existence FOREVER.

In order to do that, I have to stick to an actual eating plan.  I can’t do “diets”.  If I go on a “diet”, all I can see is that it is all about restriction and I WILL FAIL.  With that being said about a year ago I discovered 21 Day Fix.  It’s a complete meal plan, workout plan AND has these incredible little food containers that help you portion food out correctly. Food portioning has always been a struggle for me (one of many which is why I have been overweight for most of my life). 21 Day Fix also introduced me to “Clean Eating”.  Which is something that I had heard of- far off in the running community, but never really tuned into.

Who knew that losing weight, eating healthy and working out could be so easy and the food so good?  I mean, I was running half marathons – CONSTANTLY training and was still 30 pounds heavier than I had ever been (not pregnant anyway). Instead of HOURS on the treadmill or hitting the pavement, I was only doing 30 minutes working out a day, and an hour to hour and a half on a Sunday spent meal prepping. Mind BLOWN. Never saw it coming.

The left photo was me before 21 Day Fix.  During my half marathon days. The photo on the right is me after discovering 21 Day Fix.  28 pounds lost.  No, I didn’t lose that in 21 days- that would NOT be healthy.  It took a year of steadily changing my lifestyle, eating habits and working out.  WITHOUT starvation, pills, injections, dehydrating wraps- all 100% natural foods, a daily nutritional shake and working out 3-5 times a week for 30 minutes.  That’s all.

I actually feel good every day.  My arthritis isn’t kicking my ass daily, I have tons more energy, and my attitude (most days) is optimistic and happy.  Oh, and my cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugars are all OPTIMAL.

Best part?

I don’t hate myself anymore.  I don’t speed walk past the mirror because my image makes me sad and sick to my stomach.  I like going clothes shopping now.  Because things actually fit.

I am setting a good example for my kids.  One that doesn’t involve self-loathing, crash diets and depression.

I won’t lie- it’s  not been easy, but it has been worth it.
